A peaceful protest is planned at Warburton Toll Bridge tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday) over the number of unfair and unreasonable fines that have been issued and backdated.
One of those involved in organising the protest, Lymm South Independent Cllr Graham Gowland, said: “If you believe the Secretary of State for Transport should review the legislation surrounding the Warburton Bridge tolls — given the number of unfair and unreasonable fines being issued — please come along.
The protest will take place at 10 am at the Warburton Toll Bridge.
Residents have reported receiving Unpaid Toll Charge Notices several months after using the bridge, with some cases dating back to December 2025. Many say they were unaware of any issue at the time and only discovered a problem when multiple charges arrived together weeks or months later.
Cllr. Gowland said: “Hundreds, if not thousands, of people have now received fines. This is not about isolated cases — there appears to be a wider systematic issue affecting large numbers of motorists.
“This will be a peaceful and respectful protest calling for fairness, transparency and a review of the current arrangements.”
He has urged people to be mindful of local parking restrictions and not park on any red lines, as enforcement is in place and fines may be issued.
Warburton Toll Bridge bosses say the backdated fines on motorists are “proportionate and fair” after Cllr. Gowland raised the issue.
