Police issue dispersal order at Lymm due to concerns over ongoing anti-social behaviour

POLICE have today (Friday) issued a dispersal order following reports of ongoing anti-social behaviour at The Cross in Lymm, giving police powers to move people on.

To prevent any further incidents, under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, a dispersal order has been authorised.
The dispersal order is authorised from 16:00 pm on Friday, 1 May 2026, and applies to the entire area within the red boundary displayed in on the map below, covering the majority of Lymm Village. This includes and is within the boundary of A56, Eagle Brow, Rush Green Road and Oughtrington Lane as defined by the map attached. This area includes Rock Park and the Town Hall Park.
This power gives officers and PCSOs in uniform the power to remove individuals aged ten or over, engaging, or likely to engage in anti-social behaviour or crime and disorder, from this area for a period of up to 48 hours.
Their details will be taken and logged on Police systems, they will be issued with dispersal order paperwork and a map of the restricted area and told to leave immediately.
If they refuse to leave or return within that period, they will face further police action, including arrest.
Police officers, Special constables and PCSOs will be providing extra attention and patrols within this area over this time period.
Inspector Chris Webster, of Warrington LPU Neighbourhood Team, said: “Following recent reports of anti-social behaviour typically involving young people, I would like to urge all parents across the Warrington area to be aware of where of their childrens’ whereabouts and activities over this coming weekend.
“Increased numbers of officers will be out in key areas and I would urge residents and businesses to continue to report any issues with anti-social behaviour so that we can address these issues.”
If you have any concerns or information on any criminal activity taking place, please contact us on 101 or dial 999 if it is an emergency.
Lymm South Cllr. Graham Gowland voiced his support for the dispersal order stating: “I fully support Cheshire Police in putting this dispersal order in place.
“These powers are used only when there have been persistent issues, and they are about keeping people safe and giving residents and businesses some immediate respite.
“However, enforcement should not be the long‑term answer. Lymm has a Council‑owned youth and community building which exists specifically to reduce the kind of pressures we are seeing in public spaces, and it’s right that we now look carefully at how effectively that asset is being used for its intended purpose.
“Short‑term police action can address the immediate problem, but lasting solutions come from proper governance, consistent youth provision, and constructive alternatives for young people. Work is ongoing through the appropriate Council processes to address that, and I’ll continue to support anything that helps prevent this situation from repeating.”

  1. I grew up in Lymm during the fifties/sixties. We had groups of friends that would hang out together, in their own neighborhood or around the Cross. We had Holt’s Cafe as a youth club, we never saw the need to cause trouble of any kind! The worst thing we ever did was to play knock and run! What the hell is wrong with these youngsters and where are their parents?
