A landmark £20 million investment is set to transform a northern part of Orford (Hulme) over the next ten years – and the search is now on for a local champion to lead the way.
The area has been confirmed as a Pride in Place neighbourhood, securing long-term funding from the UK-wide grant programme. This initiative is designed to put power into the hands of residents, allowing the community to address local priorities and create a thriving, stronger neighbourhood.
Applications are now open for an Independent Board Chair to spearhead the project. This individual will be responsible for establishing a Pride in Place Board, bringing together residents, local businesses, faith leaders, and community groups to decide exactly how and where the £20 million should be spent.
Residents will have a big say in how the money is spent, so the ideal candidate will need to have a deep connection to the area – whether they live, work, or are strongly rooted in the neighbourhood – and a passion for ensuring local voices drive decision-making.
Charlotte Nichols, MP for Warrington North, said: “This £20 million investment is a generational opportunity for this area of Orford, and I’m delighted that the community has been recognised for this investment.
“In our search for a Chair of the Board, we’re looking for a champion who truly understands what makes the community tick and who will ensure that residents are central to shaping our 10-year plan. I’m looking forward to working closely with the new Chair to deliver real change for the area.”
Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy, growth and quality work, Cllr Hitesh Patel, added: “Local residents are the real experts on their own neighbourhoods. The Pride in Place programme is built on the belief that communities should lead the way in shaping their own futures.
“We welcome this funding and are committed to working with the Board to develop plans that are transformative, inclusive, and, most importantly, driven by the people within the area.”
How the programme works
- A 10-year vision: The £20 million will be invested over a decade to ensure lasting change.
- Community-led: The newly formed Board will oversee engagement and develop a strategic plan based on the priorities of local residents.
- Key Objectives: Building stronger community ties, creating thriving local spaces, and empowering people to take control of their area.
