WARRINGTON-based management consultant, father of two Marc Kavanagh, is taking part in Tour de 4 2026, the cycling event launched by Sir Chris Hoy following his Stage 4 Prostate Cancer diagnosis.
The event has personal significance to Marc, as like Sir Chris, he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in his late forties, with no symptoms or warning signs.
Marc said: “After the shock of this devastating news, I decided to get to work, because I refuse to accept that life ends when cancer starts. My belief is that cancer is an ultra HD invite to change, and that’s what I’m doing.
“The journey has been hard (brutal at times) over the past year. I’ve made a lot of adjustments – some big, some small, all necessary. I’m the healthiest I’ve been for over 20 years.
“The event is about showing that a diagnosis does not define a person, and highlighting what life with Stage 4 cancer can look like: warrior like strength, resilience and determination.
All funds raised will go to charities supporting people affected by Stage 4 cancer. If you’re able to donate or share, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every contribution helps provide vital support and care.”
Marc was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer at 50 — having gone to A&E with what he thought was appendix pain, with no prior symptoms whatsoever.
He was in good health when he developed abdominal pain over a weekend in February last year — convinced it was his appendix, he went to A&E; a few weeks and multiple scans later he was diagnosed with locally advanced prostate cancer
He has since overhauled his diet, exercise and lifestyle — his PSA levels have come down significantly.
Now he is taking part in Tour de 4 — Sir Chris Hoy’s charity cycling event for stage 4 cancer — riding the 60km blue route with his brother and nephew despite having no prior cycling experience; he had to buy a bike and now cycles more than he drives!
He wanted to ride last year but was undergoing radiotherapy at the time — he has a wife and two young children aged six and eight.
All funds raised go to Maggie’s, supporting people affected by stage 4 cancer.
