POLICE have confirmed that a man has been arrested and ammunition seized after a car was stopped by officers on the M6 near Woolston, Warrington.
At around 10.10 pm on Tuesday, 21 April, officers from Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit stopped a car on the M6, near Junction 21, due to suspicious activity of the driver.
Officers found a bin bag containing ammunition inside the vehicle and a 25-year-old man from Surrey was arrested on suspicion of possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate and acquiring/using/possession criminal property.
He has been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Chris Clark said: “Firearms and ammunition have no place on our streets and we remain committed to removing them and the people who choose to carry them.
“It is absolutely vital that we get all information from those communities who feel the impact of gun crime, so we can bring those responsible to justice.
“We rely on community intelligence to discover where weapons are being stored and who is using them and I would ask that the public continue to be our eyes and ears.”
