Letters to Heaven postbox given Valentine’s makeover

A SPECIAL Letters to Heaven postbox in Stockton Heath for bereaved families to write to their loved ones has had a Valentine’s makeover.

The Letters to Heaven postbox is situated outside the Co-op Funeralcare funeral directors in Stockton Heath in front of the premises.
The Post Office livery from the box dating back to Queen Elizabeth’s reign is picked out in gold lettering.
Scores of letters have been posted for people who are bereaved and missing their loved ones who’ve died.
All year round, relatives can post their missives to those who have passed away.

The letters are carefully collected from the secure postbox and placed in a garden of remembrance without any personal information being disseminated by members of staff.
The unopened letters will be gathered and shredded and composted in the special place where loved ones are already remembered.
The idea behind the scheme is to provide comfort to bereaved families who miss their loved ones on significant dates in the calendar – such as birthdays and Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
Two red hearts have been placed on the box on London Road for February 14.
People sending the letters can be from across the community and don’t have to be customers of the funeral directors.
Co-op Funeralcare staff said all families were welcome to send a letter to those they’d lost.
It could be a card for Christmas, for a birthday or a letter for no particular reason.
The letterbox will remain in place all year round.
