WARRINGTON Rylands progressed to the quarter-final stage of the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup after beating South Liverpool 4 – 1 on a misty Tuesday evening at The Hive Arena.
With the prospect of the match being called off for the second time as snow blanketed the pitch two days earlier, it went ahead following a rapid thaw.
Neil Reynolds rested a number of his squad but it was good to see the stalwart figure of Dean Furman back on the pitch.
Warrington looked strong from the start with several chances being made but not converted in the first ten minutes. Their efforts finally opened the scoring when Cole Lonsdale made a determined effort from the goal line and his shot into the goal mouth was knocked into his own net by a Liverpool defender.
The goal appeared to spark the travelling side into life. Pushing up field more and more they were rewarded with a penalty but yet again Luke Pilling was up to the task and at half time the home side led by a single goal.
The second half began as did the first with Rylands attacking quickly and a Cole Lonsdale shot was cruelly deflected past the Liverpool keeper for the second.
Once again the away side reacted to the goal and once more were given a penalty for their efforts. This time Pilling was beaten.

Jake Burton
Both sides brought on fresh players as the game advanced and substitute Jake Burton used his speed to run down the left and cross into the box where Ntumba Massanka was brought down.
This time it was Rylands with a penalty and Ben Hardcastle rarely misses these spot kicks.

Liverpool battled continuously but could not stop Alex Kiwomya who received the ball on the right and as the keeper ran out to block him, chipped the ball to Jake Burton who found an empty net for goal number four.
Warrington Rylands will now travel to Southport for the quarter-finals.
Next up, however, they have an away match against Mickleover on 18th January.
