Lucky duck nursed back to health

A DUCK who fell ill in the wintry cold snap in Warrington has been rescued by her owners and nursed back to health.

Holly the duck, who lives at Stretton House in Lower Stretton, Warrington, with a family of six, developed wet feather a few days back.
Her owner Paul Mullin explained that it meant she’s been “unable to secrete the oil which makes her waterproof.”

He said: “Up until seeing us today, armed with a towel, a net and a fishing rod, she had avoided being on the water with her five friends, Ella, Huey, Dewie and Louie.
“With the freezing temperatures and the fact that she was soaked through, we went on an hour-long mission to catch her, helped by the lovely dog-walkers Whizzy Walkies.
“Holly wasn’t happy to be caught but loved a warm bath with washing up liquid, which our research told us was the best thing to use in cases like these, followed by a pampering session with the hairdryer.
“Holly is safely tucked away inside our home with some fruit, oats and peas, whilst she dries out fully and we can already hear her quaking again, which is a huge relief.
“We’ll release her after a few more baths and a handful more days convalescing!”

Stretton House has a dog park, runs car boot sales, has a two-bed cottage to rent and sells logs and coal. Two fields are also available to rent for people who are camping.
