NEARLY 30 years after it was built, a sports pavilion in Warrington looks set to undergo a major restoration.

The Pewterspear Green Trust, a charity established in 1995 on an 18-hectare site partly in Appleton and partly in Stretton, has won planning permission to carry out the work.
The pavilion is surrounded by amenity grassland, full-size football, mini soccer pitches, and a currently unused cricket pitch.
Access is mainly from Beamish Close.

Borough planning chiefs decided to grant permission for the development after hearing the aim of the scheme was to enhance access and security, increase natural light and external views, and improve durability and ease of maintenance while complementing the building’s appearance.
This would be achieved by installing new doors and windows and roller shutters. An access ramp to the changing facilities would also be provided from outside the building.

The proposed works focus on replacing windows and doors to enhance the building’s aesthetic and functional performance. Modern materials and energy-efficient solutions, such as double-glazed windows and durable, secure doors, will improve natural lighting, insulation, and ventilation. These upgrades will not only modernise the exterior but also ensure long-term durability, low maintenance, and enhanced environmental
