FIREFIGHTERS have been thanked for the “incredibly brave work” they did tackling two blazes at an industrial building at Burtonwood, Warrington.

The fire service responded to the fires at Phipps Lane Industrial Estate on December 28 and remained on site overnight to dampen down the area.

Local Cllrs Stuart Mann and Kevin Burgess have thanked the firefighters for their endeavours and colleagues at Warrington Borough Council for helping keep local residents informed.

Cllr Mann said: “These types of fires are relatively common in the UK and on some occasions cement roofing may contain very small amounts of asbestos.
“The fire was NOT declared a major incident, and the risk was considered to be LOW, with the debris being largely contained on site.
“Two officers from the Warrington Borough Council undertook a precautionary walk over of the area as part of standard arrangements.
“This also involved speaking to some residents closest to the site.
“No significant debris from the fire was found but general advice was given if any ash was found.
“The owner will be working with an appropriate contactor to manage the clean-up of the industrial site after the fire.”

If residents have any concerns at all these can be reported on the following number 01925 443322.
