Second fire breaks out at Burtonwood industrial unit

UPDATED: A second fire broke out at an industrial unit at Burtonwood, Warrington, last night.

Earlier in the day four fire crews attended a blaze at the premises on Phipps Lane at around 11 am.

Four fire engines, from Warrington, Runcorn, Widnes and Penketh, along with an aerial ladder platform and supporting fire engine from Lymm were called to reports of a fire at an industrial premises on Phipps Lane, Warrington.

Firefighters fought the fire by splitting the incident into sections to deal with. The aerial ladder platform was used to apply water to the fire from height, while two main jets were used to fight the fire from ground level.
Crews also gained access to the interior of the premises to tackle the fire. Once the blaze had been extinguished they checked for hot spots using a thermal imaging camera.
Crews also checked surrounding units to ensure there was no spread of fire.

UPDATE: 21:18 29/12
Fire crews from three fire and rescue services worked together to tackle a well-developed fire on industrial premises. Teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to dampen the flames from different sectors of the building. The aerial ladder platform was used to spray water from above.

Update 29/12 at 02:30 – The fire engines from Greater Manchester and Merseyside left the incident with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. Our fire engine and aerial ladder platform from Lymm have also left the incident.

Update 29/12 at 10:30 – The remaining crews have worked through the night to continue dampening down the area and make sure there is no risk of the fire reigniting. The electricity board is on-site to ensure the affected unit is isolated. A fire engine from Birchwood has arrived to relieve crews already in attendance.

Update 29/12 at 21:30 – This incident has been reduced to one fire engine which has been on a relief plan to rotate with other crews throughout the day. A rotation of one fire engine will continue through the night into tomorrow. Crews remain on scene to ensure there is no reignition of the fire. A full tour of the site has been carried out with a thermal imaging camera. Hot spots will be monitored and dampened down.
