RESIDENTS in Warrington are being urged not to dump unwanted Christmas fairy lights in their blue recycling bins after the festive season has ended.
If people do put the items in their blue bin, they won’t be accepted by refuse collectors for recycling, officials have said.
Warrington Borough Council issued a warning on X (previously known as Twitter) under a heading ‘recycle your broken fairy lights the right way this Christmas.’
It said: “Please don’t put any old cables or electrical items in your blue bin, we can’t accept them!
“If you have any old fairy lights you need to get rid of, take to one of our community recycling centres.
“Some shops can also accept small electrical devices.”
Traditionally, Christmas decorations are taken down on Twelfth Night which falls on January 6, 2025.
But many residents take their trees and lights down beforehand.
Bin collections are being altered over the festive period due to Bank Holidays.
Next week, if your bin collection is on a Tuesday, there is no change to your usual date.
But for those who usually have bins collected on Wednesday, January 1, the date is being moved back a day to Thursday, January 2.
Similarly, if your usual collection date is Thursday, January 2, it is now going to be Friday, January 3.
And for those residents who usually have a Friday, January 3 collection date, this is switched back a day to Saturday, January 4.
