Train travellers warned of possible disruption due to shortage of conductors

TRAVELLERS from Warrington using rail services have been warned of potential disruption by a train operator.

Northern trains from stations in Cheshire, including Warrington, Merseyside and Greater Manchester are among those impacted by the shortage of conductors.
Journey times on Sunday December 29 are predicted to take longer and be less frequent than timetabled with the risk of cancellations, the company warned.

A spokesman for Northern told the BBC the underlying reason for the issues is “train crew availability, in particular on Sundays, which is contractually outside of the working week.”
Replacement train services will be available for passengers, who have been warned of last-minute changes to the timetable.
Consumers are urged to check before travelling even if they’ve already bought tickets for potential gaps in train services.
The company apologised to its customers in the region who have been particularly hard hit with recent issues on its services.
“We encourage everyone to plan ahead and check journeys before travelling for the latest information and train times,” the spokesman continued.
Northern has separately issued a ban on e-bikes and e-scooters on its trains if they don’t meet electrically assisted pedal cycle criteria. It comes after an e-bike spontaneously combusted at a station in March.
