WARRINGTON darts supremo Luke ‘the Nuke’ Littler has been named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2024.
He was pipped at the post for a double in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year accolade, as he was beaten into second place by Olympic 800m gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson
The 17-year-old professional darts player enjoyed an incredible year in the sport after he was the runner-up at the Professional Darts Corporation World Darts Championship in January 2024.
His darts career has gone from strength to strength with a clutch of senior titles despite his young age.
Littler is the reigning Premier League Darts, Grand Slam and World Series Finals champion.
It is the first time a darts player has ever won the prestigious BBC award.
Speaking on BBC 1, the modest sportsman said it shows how well he has done this year.
When he reached the World Championship final back in January, Luke Littler was just 16 years old and only turned 17 after the win.
He has gone to win a haul of trophies in the sport.
Littler’s ratings now see him go from a relative unknown player at the start of the year to fourth in the world now and he’s netted £1m in prize money.
He has brought the sport into the mainstream with a new legion of fans interested in darts as a result of his astonishing success, becoming a household name.
