WARRINGTON is again under a yellow Met Office weather warning as falling trees caused disruption for motorists throughout Saturday.
Trees were down at Walton Gardens – one on the golf course and one near the children’s zoo – and a third on Walton Lea Road in Stockton Heath.
An appeal was launched after a village Christmas tree was upended by the gusts in Winwick.
Cllr Stuart Mann issued the appeal to get the tree back up at St Oswalds Church.
The gusts prompted police in Orford to urge residents on Saturday night not to venture out unless the journey was absolutely necessary.
Writing on Facebook at 9pm on Saturday, local police said: “The weather is still very bad with trees falling across some roads, please everyone stay safe and only go out if absolutely necessary.”
Events were cancelled throughout the day due to the high winds – including Parkrun at Victoria Park which attracts hundreds of runners each Saturday.
The popular Maker’s Market at Time Square was moved into the market on Saturday and reduced in size due to the poor weather.
The Sunday market today is operating as normal outside between 10am and 4pm.
For Sunday, Warrington is facing another day of strong winds as the Met Office yellow warning is in effect until 6pm.
It says Storm Darragh will be moving away from the UK throughout Sunday, but will continue to leave a legacy of strong north to northeasterly winds throughout England and Wales.
Winds could gust to between 35mph to 45mph it warns, with the potential to disrupt travel and cause difficult driving conditions.
Warrington is one of 10 local authorities in the north west affected by the warning.
The forecast shows strong gusts forecast throughout the day, peaking at 1pm with wind speeds of 37mph.
Today’s Met Office forecast says it will remain “very windy with gales possible in places, especially at first.
“Often cloudy with a chance of showers, but occasional bright spells are likely. Feeling cold with maximum temperature 8C.”
