Police investigations ongoing after body sadly recovered from River Mersey

UPDATED: POLICE investigations are ongoing after a body was sadly recovered from the River Mersey, off Howley Lane, Warrington, yesterday, Sunday.

Enquries are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances of their death.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 11.25am on Sunday 17 March, officers were called to reports of a body in the river Mersey near Howley Lane, Warrington.
Officers attended the scene along with Cheshire Fire and Rescue service who retrieved the body from the river.
At this time, officers are in the early stages of their enquiries and are working to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances of their death.

Four fire crews from Warrington, Birchwood, Penketh, and Lymm were part of a large emergency presence at the scene

Firefighters from the swift water rescue team entered the water to recover the deceased individual using a boat.
