Litter pickers wanted to join Warrington Great British Spring Clean

LOCAL Litter Networks are looking for volunteers to join them for the Warrington Great British Spring Clean 2024 which starts this Friday, March 15.

A Public Picking Programme has been organised for the rest of the month and those taking part are advised to wear practical outdoor clothes with long trousers and sleeves, appropriate for the weather.
A hat and strong footwear are recommended, with gardening gloves if you have them. Most picks last for a couple of hours. Organisers will aim to provide kit for all booked participants.

One of th eorganisers Tony Dixon said: “This years GBSC is an opportunity for the people of Warrington to come together and make a big difference in our shared community environment.
“The Warrington litter teams have arranged 15 litterpicks. We are keen to encourage public participation.
“We have plans to tidy many of Warringtons parks and trails, including the Trans Pennine Trial from Heatley near Lymm to Spike Island in Widnes, and the Sankey Valley Trail to Carr Mill Dam in St Helens.
“Litter picking is a mindful, sociable and purposeful outdoor activity, which benefits our community, our local environment and ourselves.
“The GBSC 2024 challenge is all the greater, as last year we broke all previous local records with 345 bags collected and have been recognised nationally with a Silver Star award from Keep Britain Tidy.
“Over the last 12 months some of our teams have noticed that local litter levels seem to be falling. We hope that this indicates greater respect for the town environment.”

CF = Child Friendly : accompanied children may attend if booked in advance.
