UPDATED: THE M62 westbound near Warrington has now re-opened after a major clean-up operation following a collision that caused debris and a large oil spillage.

The debris from a bus’s detached prop shaft caused multiple vehicles to collide with it, resulting in an extensive oil spill and closure of the M62 westbound this morning, with the clean-up operation taking around seven hours.

It caused severe traffic congestion in the Warrington area including delays in the local bus services.

The incidemt led to emergency repairs and heavy traffic delays, with congestion extending past junction 8, Warrington West. Severe delays were reported between junction 7 and junction 6 M57 J1 (Tarbock Island).

Traffic was also affected on the M62 Eastbound, as drivers slowed to observe the incident, leading to delays stretching back to junction 6. In addition to the highway traffic, several Warrington bus services, including the 19, 22, 28, and 17 routes, faced delays due to the road closure.

At one point, the delays were estimated to be over an hour long.

A person was arrested for endangering road users related to the road block on the M62. The clean-up operations and emergency repairs were extensive, as authorities worked to restore normal traffic flow and ensure the safety of the road users.

  1. Everyday we are experiencing RTC s on our motorways surrounding Warrington.
Causing diverted traffic through Warrington .
Warrington can’t cope with this overspill of traffic we have congested roads of our own !
Where’s the police ? To monitor the motorways ?

  2. I believe it was a propshaft that became detached from a vehicle.
I understand that you cannot foresee these problems but if there were more police/highways patrols patrolling the motorways ??

  3. Another accident tonight blocking the M56 eastbound.
This is becoming a joke everyday there’s an accident on our surrounding motorways affecting our local roads.
Time for strong enforcement on our motorways by the police
