THE capacity for Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium has been revealed after the club secured a new ground safety certificate.

The club has been working with Warrington Borough Council and the emergency services to get supporters safely into The Halliwell Jones Stadium ahead of the new campaign.

The application to the Council for a new Ground Safety Certificate was approved, coming into force on 3rd February 2024 with a capacity of 15,300.

With an initial capacity of 13,000 when it first opened in 2004, the capacity was increased when the club announced that the corners of the East Stand at the stadium would be filled in to create a further 2,000 spaces made up of seating and terracing for the 2012 season. The stadium capacity, set at 15,000 for the first sell-out home match against St. Helens in 2012, was increased to 15,200.

The Halliwell Jones Stadium broke a stadium capacity record last year when 15,026 fans attended the Round 9 Super League clash against Wigan Warriors. It’s a significant year coming up for the stadium, with the 20th anniversary of the club’s move from the old Wilderspool stadium.

The Wire play two pre-season fixtures at home ahead of the new campaign. Local rivals Widnes Vikings are in town this Friday night, 7.30 pm kick-off. The club will then be celebrating Joe Philbin’s Testimonial when they welcome Leigh Leopards on Saturday 3 February, at 5.30 pm.

The first game at the stadium, the opening round of Super League IX, live on Sky Sports took place on February 21, 2004. Warrington Wolves defeated Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 34-20 in a thrilling game. Nathan Wood christened the whitewash, scoring the Wolves’ first-ever try at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
