Pet crematorium plan for Walton Lea

2

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington will be asked next week to give the go-ahead for a pet crematorium in the grounds of Walton Lea Crematorium.

The proposals involve the siting of a shipping container to house the pet cremator and the change of use of the historic lodge at the main entrance to the crematorium.

Currently used for storage, the lodge would become a reception area for the pet crematorium.
The site, off Chester Road, Walton is within the Green Belt but planning officers say there will be no impact on the openness of the area and are recommending the proposals be approved by the borough council’s development management committee on Wednesday.

Councillors will be told the lodge, which was originally the lodge for Walton Hall, was built in 1838 and is Grade 2 Listed.
The shipping container will be sited in a rear service yard and will not be visible to the public. It will house the pet cremator which will be capable of cremating up to seven animals a day.
However, it is anticipated there will only be one cremation per day during the first year.
Warrington does not currently provide a pet cremation service.
