Wolves confirm Kiwi forward departure

WARRINGTON Wolves have confirmed the departure of Kiwi forward Sam Kasiano after just a season with the club.

Kasiano, 33, was signed by previous coach Daryl Powell as part of a re-build ahead of the 2023 season.

Despite a bright start, the Wolves’ form tumbled and Powell was eventually dismissed as head coach, before Gary Chambers managed to steer them to a play-off place.

A club statement read: “Warrington Wolves can confirm that Sam Kasiano has been released from his playing contract with immediate effect.

“The 33-year-old prop joined the club ahead of the 2023 season and made 26 appearances during last year’s last campaign.

“We would like to thank Sam for his contribution to the Wire and wish him well for the next chapter of his career.”

Kasiano, who had been handed the number 21 in the Wolves’ squad numbers list for 2024, arrived following three seasons in Super League with Catalans. He made his name in the NRL Down Under playing for Canterbury Bulldogs and Melbourne Storm.

His departure will free up a quota spot for new head coach Sam Burgess, who will take charge of the Wolves for the first time later this month when they host Widnes in a pre-season friendly.

Another of Powell’s signings, Wales international forward Gil Dudson, has previously been linked with an exit from the club.
