WARRINGTON Hockey Club’s Women’s 1st team suffered a 3-1 home defeat against local rivals Golborne.
Warrington started the game the stronger and were soon awarded a penalty stroke after a foul on the goal line by a Golborne defender. Steph Quayle stepped up but was denied by their exceptional goalie who made a great save – the theme of the day unfortunately for Warrington.
Galvanised, Golborne found form and forced their way through the Warrington defence. A shot on goal with a lucky bounce gave them a 1-0 lead.
Warrington struck back early in the second half, when Louise Unsworth intercepted a pass and her goal-bound effort found Quayle who diverted the ball in for the equaliser. Golborne retook the lead from the restart with another touch of fortune as the ball ricocheted to their forward after a great save from Tracy Jackson.
Warrington pushed for a second equaliser but were undone on the counter late on, culminating in an unstoppable finish from the Golborne forward.
Warrington Women’s Development Squad fell to a 6-1 defeat against a seasoned Macclesfield side.
Macclesfield started the game at pace and were quickly two goals up against a much less experienced Warrington side. Used their experience and nous they forced themselves into a 5-0 win at the interval. Warrington galvanised by the break set out to make a battle of the second half and ultimately drew that 1-1. Frankie Hayes grabbed the Warrington goal after a slick passing move but there were top performances across the pitch from the likes of Avril Platt, Katherine Parker, and Amy Molden.
Warrington Men’s 1st team progressed into the 3rd round of the EH National Cup with a 3-2 victory away at City of Manchester.
Warrington fielded a much-changed side but took an early stranglehold on the game with some fantastic hockey. Andrew Gould gave Warrington the lead, finishing from close range after great attacking play by Carl Fairhurst. Sam Pinion doubled the lead with a goal of the season contender; dummying the defence, cocking the ball onto his reverse stick and sweetly pulling the trigger, firing a bullet past the goalkeeper. Harvey Mason finished Warrington’s scoring with a close-range finish
having been put through by Fairhurst.
Manchester rallied in the second half scoring two fortuitous goals but couldn’t deny Warrington a place in the next round.
Warrington Men’s 2nd team played out a 4-4 thriller away at Alderley Edge.
Arthur Hung put Warrington ahead early with a fantastic first-time finish before Alderley equalised with a penalty stroke shortly after. Rob Powell restored the visitors lead with a precise finish before
Douglas Samuels gave Warrington a 3-1 lead with a powerful strike across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.
Alderley rallied in the second half scoring three goals in quick succession through two short corners and a counter attack leaving Warrington undeservedly behind. Powell was the hero with only a few minutes on the clock, sweeping in the equaliser after being teed up by Dan Sutton on the right wing
