LYMM mother-of-three Kerry Spink took part in Muscular Dystrophy UK’s Bake a Difference campaign raising thousands for the charity.

Kerry cooked up a storm as she organised a coffee morning, selling tea, cakes, raffle tickets and her friend Jackie Gare’s hand-crafted goods to support the charity that’s close to her heart.

Kerry’s identical twin boys, Oscar and Sebastian, 13, were diagnosed with Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) aged eight, in July 2019.

Following the event Kerry said: “We were absolutely blown away by the support we received. Thanks to Jackie for hosting the event at her beautiful home and making such beautiful, crafted decorations. The Bake a Difference event was a huge success; the raffle winners were delighted with their prizes, and we all ate tons of cake.

“The best bit though, was raising much needed funds for an incredible charity Muscular Dystrophy UK who provide essential support for families like ours, dealing with muscle wasting and weakening conditions every day. Oscar and Seb loved chatted with the guests about their wheelchairs and the realities of living with a life-limiting condition. They played an essential part in folding up 600 raffle tickets ready for the prize draw too.”

Muscular Dystrophy UK is the leading charity for more than 110,000 children and adults in the UK living with one of over 60 muscle wasting and weakening conditions. All the money raised will help fund groundbreaking research and life-changing support.
The Bake a Difference campaign began after supporter Sammy de Laszlo,15, from Hampshire, who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 2012, organised a bake sale with his family to help raise awareness of his condition.
Susanne Driffield, Regional Development Manager (North England and East Midlands): “We’ve been blown away by Kerry’s efforts. Thank you to her and everyone who took part in this year’s Bake a Difference campaign, Whether you’re were a star baker or a shop-bought faker, every pound raised from our Bake a Difference campaign will help make a difference for those living with muscle-wasting and weakening conditions.”
