LEADERSHIP elections are underway within the controlling Labour group at Warrington Borough Council following an emergency meeting last night, Wednesday.
Council leader Cllr. Russ Bowden signalled it was his intention and that of his deputy Cllr Cathy Mitchell, to step down after previously announcing they were not seeking re-election as borough councillors next May.
Nominations are now being sought for appointments to be made on November 16.
Cllr. Bowden, who has represented Birchwood for 13 year and been leader the past five, said he was not seeking re-election next May following “significant personal challenges” putting immense strain on his family.
A day after his announcement his deputy Cllr Mitchell, also announced she was not seeking re-election due to the challenges faced as a woman, the personal exposure endured and the “lack of effective and timely safeguards” hindering professional, personal and family life.
Its understood contenders include Borough Council cabinet members Cllr Hans Mundry, Transportation, highways and public realm, Cllr Hitesh Patel, Environment, housing and public protection and Cllr. Janet Henshaw, Sustainability and climate change.

I wouldn’t vote any of them into office ! The Labour Party have ruined Warrington and left the residents in a mountain of debt
