Investigations ongoing to address fly-tipping issues at site earmarked for housing

TWO investigations are underway to address concerns over ongoing fly-tipping issues at a former factory site earmarked for a new housing development at Lymm.

Local residents and Cllrs. have been complaining about fly-tipping issues at the former Elastomer site bordering Millers Lane and Carlton Road, now earmarked for housing, saying the situation had been getting worse over a period of three years.

In July assurances were given that the site was to be cleared “imminently” but issues have persisted according to concerned local residents.

One angry resident again raised the issue with Warrington Worldwide stating: “There has been very little action from the company who were responsible for the clean up, simple fact is they have NOT.
“The site is still a total mess, even after the promise “it would be sorted”. It’s been miserable living next to this for over NINE MONTHS!

“There are 100s of people who have been affected by this issue 40 apartments on one side of the fence, 60 on the other side, that’s 100s of people who have had to keep their windows closed though periods of a hot summer due to this unbelievable inaction, from the people tasked at sorting this!
As neighbours I can not hide my utter frustration and anger with this company, and it’s to the point it needs to be highlighted in the public arena, only then might some action happen to improve this mess.
“Storms are now coming – our houses and cars have been covered with strange building materials, and with further high winds, this is a health hazard and well has a shocking environmental mess!
“This is a truly terrible story of industrial fly tipping which has been going on for nearly 3 years, and nothing seems to be happening, just more white vans turning up and sometimes skip loads of industrial waste, old electrical
items, cookers, beds, mattresses, building materials, and other household mess – have been dumped and fly-tipped on this site over in Lymm in Warrington, its got a lot worse this year but the people who are listed on Company House as
responsible for the upkeep of the site – have refused to act and turned a blind eye while allowing whoever is working from the site to keep dumping and unloading more waste.”
“I saw a rat last week sneaking through the fence, foot long unit, there is something very rotten in that site – there have been periodically “odd smells” and a lot of flies this summer.
“It’s a horrific mess and this company who should have sorted it – have washed their hands!!”

Planning permission was originally approved for nine three-storey properties on the site in October 2020 but never progressed. A more recent application suggested nine four-storey properties.
Earlier this year the TIC Group sought for approval of reserved matters for Appearance, Landscaping, Layout and scale on previous application 2020/37910.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We are currently undertaking two investigations as part of our work to address the issues on this site.”
