Former manager Michael Clegg’s return to The Quickline Logistics Arena ended in disappointment as his Hyde United side were beaten 3-1 by Warrington Rylands in the Emirates FA Cup.
Determined to avoid a repeat of last season’s First Qualifying Round defeat to Guiseley at Gorsey Lane, Rylands went into the tie full of confidence after recording two successive league victories.
The home side were still without the injured Matt Regan, while Ben Hardcastle and George Waring were both unavailable through suspension following red cards.
Clegg’s Hyde side were also hampered by injuries, with five players ruled out.
Rylands made the perfect start when Harrison Wood produced a fine finish, chipping Jordan Eastham in the Hyde goal after being picked out by an Adam Caddick cross.
Hyde levelled 26 minutes later when Warrington failed to deal with Harry Ditchfield’s long throw. Dan Martin was on hand to head the ball home and bring the Tigers back into the contest.
However, Rylands regained the lead just before half-time. Wood combined with Calum Costello to create an opening for Charlie Munro, who unleashed a powerful effort from the edge of the area into the top corner.
Hyde struggled to break down a resolute Warrington defence after the interval. When Gabidon went down inside the penalty area, the visitors appealed for a spot-kick, but the referee waved play on.
At the other end, Caddick latched onto a pass from Jawad Jebrin and struck the crossbar with a powerful effort.
With just minutes remaining, substitute Jake Burton created another opportunity for Caddick, who made no mistake this time, curling his shot into the back of the net to seal an impressive 3-1 victory for Rylands.
The result sends Warrington Rylands through to the Second Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup, where they now await the draw for their next opponents.
Attention will then turn back to league action, with Gorsey Lane hosting Stockton Town on Saturday, 12 September.
