WITH the first named storm of the autumn, Storm Agnes, expected to hit the UK tomorrow, new research has revealed Warrington as the 5th greyest place in the UK based on hours of sunshine.
Nearby Manchester, not surprisingly takes top spot with 1,265 average annual sunshine hours which means that the sun shines for less than 15% of the year with the weather not fairing much better in Warrington, with an average 1,385 hours.
To make matters worse for its residents, Manchester has the second-highest number of rainfall days in the UK with 1,197 mm of rain compared to 868 mm in Warrington.
Rainfall is experienced on average 171 days of the year in Manchester compared to 156 in Warrington.
If you do live in and around Manchester and want to get out and see the sun, then your best opportunity to do so is May, when the sun shines for 170 hours of the month.
Meanwhile the research by Utility Bidder, reveals the seaside town of Hastings has been named the sunshine capital of the UK, with residents basking in an average of 1,914 hours of sunshine each year.
