A special memorial service to mark the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain took place at St Elphin’s Parish Church in Warrington, today, Sunday.
The event featured the 1330 (Warrington) Royal Air Force Air Cadets to honour the valiant aircrews who defended the skies over Britain during the Second World War 83 years ago, serving as a poignant reminder of the bravery, determination, and sacrifice that defined our nation in its most trying hours.
The Memorial Service included readings, hymns, and the drumhead ceremony with the laying of the Book of Remembrance to honour those who gave their lives.
1330 (Warrington) Royal Air Force Air Cadets played a prominent role in the proceedings and offered their own tribute to the veterans of the Battle of Britain.
Their involvement symbolises the enduring spirit of service and commitment that characteristics the Royal Air Force and the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.
Special guests included Lady Redmond MBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire and her husband Phil and Mayor of Warrington Cllr. Steve Wright.
Members of Warrington Male Voice Choir also performed at the event.
The Battle of Britain was a military campaign of the Second World War, in which the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Fleet Air Arm (FAA) of the Royal Navy defended the United Kingdom (UK) against large-scale attacks by Nazi Germany’s air force, the Luftwaffe. It was the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces.
