WARRINGTON Conservatives have selected Stephen Taylor as their candidate in the forthcoming election for Appleton Parish Council, Hillcliffe and Cobbs Ward, while independent Joe Doherty will contest the Thorn Ward.

They will contest the Appleton Council Parish elections against the Lib Dems who announced their candidates earlier this week for the elections next Thursday, September 7.

Conservative Cllr. Kenneth Critchley said: “I am delighted that Stephen has been selected to stand in this election, Stephen has a wealth of experience having been a Borough Councillor previously, and also a Parish Councillor. Stephen also worked for nearly 40 years in the Public Sector, much of which was managerial and at senior level. Stephen has lived in Warrington South most of his life and has the best interest of the area and its residents at heart. He opposes the building of around 4500 homes in the South and has been working alongside Conservative councillors and MP Andy Carter to oppose these developments.”
Stephen added: “When a Conservative team like ours works together on these issues, we can get great results for local residents. Since Warrington South has had an effective Conservative team, the results speak for themselves. Vote for me on Thursday 7th September to strengthen our fight against this overdevelopment and deliver the services you need and deserve.”

Meanwhile, Joe Doherty lives locally and is standing as an Independent with no affiliation to any Political Party.
He said: “My only concern is representing local residents in achieving the very best for our community.”
A resident of South Warrington for almost 45 years (37 years Stretton and 7 years Appleton) and, together with his wife Jean, has raised 3 children, all of whom attended St. Matthew’s CE Primary School and Bridgewater High School.
In 2016 he retired from his post of Chief Executive for a major South Manchester Housing Association and has over 35 years senior management experience, particularly aligned to working with and alongside Local Authorities regarding Housing Development and Services provision.
He added: “I am currently a Parish Councillor for Stretton and have been actively involved since 2017 in trying to influence Warrington Borough Council to amend the Local Plan and reduce proposed new development on South Warrington Greenbelt Land. In addition, I am a founder member of the Rethinking South Warrington Futures Group who has worked in partnership with the South Parish Council Local Plan Liaison Group that is opposed to further large-scale development in South Warrington.
“I am a great believer in community cohesion and as a long-term resident of South Warrington I am extremely proud of our villages and how they have, over the past 4 decades, adapted to change whilst retaining their individual characteristics.
“Outside my family, I enjoy keeping fit and have been a member of the Park Royal Leisure Club for 20 years. I also enjoy reading, a game of golf, gardening and walking our dog.
“If elected I will do my utmost to ensure we preserve the quality of life, the unique character of our villages and their long-term future.”
