Police issue reminder following neighbour dispute over parking

POLICE at Stretton have issued a reminder after being called to a neighbour dispute over car parking.

Disputes in relation to parking issues are one of the biggest causes of fallout between neighbours – in particular parking outside people’s homes.

A police spokesperson said: “As a reminder, the road outside your home is a public highway, you have no right to reserve or claim the space in front of your home as your own.”

  1. I have to ask this: a sign, (Red Circle with a Car and Bike over the top of it), and beneath it is a notice which says “For Access” This is a prohibiting sign. The red circle makes it legally binding, look at a 30 sign, go over 30, get a ticket. Then why won’t the Police do something about the cars parking on my road, outside my house covered by a “for access” sign? They park there and visit a social club in a different post code area than the houses covered by the sign?

  2. “The no motor vehicles sign consists of a white disc with a red border and icons of a car and a motorbike.

It means cars and motorbikes are NOT permitted on a particular road.

Since it does not have the classic red stroke through it, some people get confused and think that the car and motorbike sign means the opposite – that cars and motorbikes are the only vehicles allowed.”

It would seem the Police too are confused and that the words “For Access” are making matters worse.
