LABOUR has selected Dan Price, a former Warrington borough Cllr. who quit the party over “Brexit betrayal,” as its candidate for Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner.
It follows on from the former Great Sankey North and Whittle Hall ward councillor resigning from the party in April 2019 and then standing as a Change UK candidate in the European Elections.
He is still a sitting member of Great Sankey Parish Council, where he is currently Vice Chair.
Announcing his selection Labour North West believes that feeling secure is the bedrock on which opportunities are built, communities can thrive, and local economies can prosper.
They say that sense of security has slowly eroded over the past 13 years as levels of violent crime remain too high and confidence that there will be any consequences when a crime is committed, has fallen. Too often people fear that when things go wrong, no one will come and nothing will be done.
Commenting on his selection as Labour’s candidate for Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Mr Price said: “Under the Conservatives, our town centres are being hit by growing levels of anti-social behaviour, with people smashing shop windows, graffitiing public spaces and trashing our high streets, yet nothing is done.”
“Neighbourhood policing has been decimated under the Conservatives and as a result criminals are getting away scot-free while communities are being let down.”
“The next Labour government has a plan to make Britain’s streets safe again, by halving serious violent crime and raising confidence in the Police and Criminal Justice System to its highest levels. Our plan will put 13,000 police and PCSOs in neighbourhood roles across the Country because everyone deserves to feel safe.”
A Labour spokesperson added: “Dan Price is an outstanding choice for Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner. Dan has lived in Warrington all of his life and still lives and works in Cheshire. He is acutely aware of the issues facing local residents and businesses. Dan is best placed to make Cheshire’s streets safe and increase the number of Police Officers across the county.”
