Residents left stunned after planners approve large Trident HGV distribution depot

RESIDENTS at Risley have been left stunned after Warrington planners approved controversial proposals for a large HGV distribution centre near their homes.

Members of Warrington Borough Council’s Development Management committee committee voted 7-2 to follow officer advise and approve the application which will also include the demolition of the former Noggin pub, and historic World War II military buildings on the site.

As distraught residents left the meeting one shouted to members of the committee “You should be ashamed of yourselves.”

After the meeting another resident commented:”Stunned at the approval. Looked like the DMC were batting for St Modwen. It looked like it was approved before it came to the meeting. Do the council know what that have done!”
Another said: “The DMC was simply a sales pitch for St Modwen. What I witnessed tonight has truly shocked me as I was of the opinion this was a democratic process.”

Residents had invested in their own planning consultants to oppose the application by St Modwen Developments which involves the demolition of existing dwellings at 689 and 689a Warrington Rd and former Noggin public house and existing industrial premises and redevelopment of site to provide buildings for employment use (use classes E(g)(iii) / B8), access and car parking, landscaping, and associated works on land and at Trident Business Park.

A total of 333 Letters of objection have been received in response to 4 consultation periods while there were 28 letters of support. Residents opposed the scheme claiming it would lead to thousands of HGV movements, seven days a week, 365 days a year!

Meanwhile planning officers recommended approval saying the site was within an existing employment area, which was acceptable in principle subject to conditions.
Amended plans included:
• A reduction in height (Unit T81 height to haunch reduced from 12.5m to 10m)
• Change in roof design
• Adjustment to the southern access from Daten Avenue
• Enhanced planting

  1. your right there…always refuse first application then pass second application!…if i was them residents refuse pay your COUNCIL TAX !

  2. It is a built up area already with warehouse in that area, so should be used to it and nothing to complain about better than looking at the empty pub.
