Futuristic homes plan approved for grounds of historic hall

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead for the construction of five futuristic homes in the grounds of historic Lymm Hall.

The proposals represent a variation on similar plans approved in 2017.

But, members of Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee were told, the new properties will be of a much more contemporary design than those originally planned.

There will still be five detached houses but instead of being grouped around a central courtyard, as originally envisaged, they will now be arranged off a central access road.
Work has already started on site, including excavation work for an access road which was approved under the earlier proposals.
Applicants Ecospheric Ltd are aiming for a far more environmentally sustainable development than originally proposed.
The houses will all be south facing to gain the maximum benefit from roof-mounted solar panels and the development will generate more energy than it will consume.
Planners were told the footprint of the original and proposed dwellings would be similar in terms of scale, but the current proposals would form a more compact, square shape
compared to the thinner, elongated shape of the original houses. Each dwelling would still be accompanied by a parking area to the front and gardens. Internally, the floorspace of the original scheme and that proposed would be similar. While the original scheme offered a mixture of three and four bedroom houses, the proposed dwellings would provide four bedrooms.
The site is well screened from Grade 2 Listed Lymm Hall which dates from the late 16th Century.

Lymm Parish Council and five nearby residents lodged objections on the grounds of noise and disturbance from the access road, inappropriate development in the Lymm Conservation area, highway safety, damage to trees, increased flood risk, etc.
But the committee approved the proposals.
