A cross-section of local people and politicians will be attending a “Clean air” Symposium organised by Trams for Warrington, this Friday (March 31) in the Masonic Hall at 6:30 pm.

With Warrington regularly in the top five towns in the North West for poor air quality Trams for Warrington is hosting the town’s first public Air Quality Symposium, ‘Let Warrington Breathe’ on Friday 31st 2023. It will provide a forum to bring together all the major stakeholders including Warrington Borough Council and councillors, residents’ groups, both Warrington MPs Andy Carter and Charlotte Nichols and local transport and air quality experts.

Ian Buttress, LRTA, former Director of Greater Manchester Transport Authority said: “The aim is to share information and expertise with a view to understanding the problems and some potential solutions. We want to bring forward the latest information about air pollution and the health impacts on residents in Warrington.”

“There will be a number of speakers covering a range of topics”, added Sharon Harris, LRTA, an ex-Warrington councillor. “Those attending will have a chance to ask questions of the speakers, and to get a better understanding of the problems and some potential solutions”.

One of the speakers, Prof. Lewis Lesley, added: “The air quality in much of Warrington would lead to a factory being closed. Warrington is also highly dependent on cars, a major source of toxic pollution.”
Meanwhile, Jim Harkins, Chair TramForward Campaigns Group: “Motor vehicles also create toxic air pollution from microparticles scrubbed between tyres and tarmac, worse than tailpipe emissions.”
The Symposium is a public event, but to help with refreshment provision, those wishing to addend should first register with Sharon Harris on 07894 082 442
