THE Amazon fulfilment centre in Warrington welcomed Year 8 pupils from a local high school for a tour and a special presentation to celebrate International Women’s Day.

During the tour, pupils from Great Sankey High School saw how Amazon stores, picks and packs products that are shipped from Warrington to customers around the world.
The Year 8 pupils were also treated to a special presentation from Amazon in Warrington’s ‘Woman in Ops’ affinity group, which is a dynamic range of women working across operations, who support and motivate other women at Amazon through mentoring, upskilling and connectivity.
The presentation discussed what it is to be a woman in operations, a sector that can be male dominated, how to find jobs in the industry and the opportunities out there.
During the tour, pupils and teachers met Amazon in Warrington’s Site Leader, James Pitt. He said: “International Women’s Day is widely celebrated here at Amazon. It was fantastic to welcome Great Sankey High School to the fulfilment centre in Warrington to showcase and encourage the great achievements of women within the operations field. I hope the pupils enjoyed their visit and felt motivated and inspired by our ‘Woman in Ops’ affinity group.”
Morgane Palisser-Payne, a member of the ‘Women in Ops’ affinity group who led the presentation, added: “It was our pleasure to present to the Year 8 pupils of Great Sankey High School. We want to highlight the importance of International Women’s Day and inform young women of the wide range of opportunities open to them in operations. We hope that they enjoyed their visit.”
Sophie, a Year 8 pupil at Great Sankey High School, said: “It was really cool to see the different opportunities available to women in the operations industry and get a behind-the-scenes look at the Amazon fulfilment centre. The ‘Women in Ops’ group was very inspiring.”

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Amazon hosted a series of events, activities and programmes designed to promote and support this year’s theme, which is #EmbraceEquity. Celebrations will take place throughout March, that kicked off on the 6th of March with Amazon’s annual International Women’s Day Festival.
The festival was led by the Women at Amazon affinity group that aims to raise awareness of the biases that women often face in the workplace and broader society, providing information and inspiration to help participants overcome challenges and obstacles.
Amazon’s celebrations included a wide range of programmes designed to inspire and empower women. Amazon employees were also encouraged to use the hashtags #SheisAmazon and #DriveHerForward to shine a light on exceptional women at Amazon.
