Frankfurt Fascinating Places and Facts that you may not have known

0

Frankfurt is a wonderful German city that is the fifth largest in Germany. It is worth noting that it is considered the ‘alpha city’ and plays an important role in the global economic system. Huge numbers of tourists visit this incredible place every year.

If you know what to see or don’t want to see some trivial places, then, this article is for you! But that doesn’t mean you can’t visit Römerberg square, the history museum, or other popular places when you come to Frankfurt.

Before we set off on our journey to the new and exciting places in Frankfurt for tourists – you need to think about the road. For example, the bulk of tourists with their luggage starts their journey from Frankfurt airport. You’re likely to have the same story, so for the trip to be as comfortable as possible in terms of transportation – book a Frankfurt airport taxi and don’t have to think about the logistics. Now we get started:

Go shopping the Frankfurt way

We’ve decided to start with an unusual item because if you want to immerse yourself in the local life of people from another country, you need to repeat after them. The Kleinmarkthalle is a gourmet paradise. It’s a huge covered market (you can get there by airport taxi directly from Frankfurt airport) with lots of interesting cafes, wine cellars, and stalls selling fresh produce from all over the world. This is the place where locals go shopping.

Goethe’s house

The famous and inimitable writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born in 1749 in a lovely house at Großer Hirschgraben 23, where you should go. Here, you can touch the soul of beauty. Unfortunately, the building was not preserved in its original form due to the Second World War. But it was perfectly restored and managed to preserve the very atmosphere that people come for. The facade and interior of the house are in rococo style, and the room still has an astronomical clock (which the future poet was very fond of). An interesting fact is that Goethe lived here until he was 16 and later came to stay for a long time between his studies in Leipzig and Strasbourg. The place is very conveniently reached by AtoB taxi.

Sachsenhausen

When you arrive in Frankfurt, you should drive/walk over the Eiserner Steg bridge – to then stroll through the cobblestone streets of Old Sachsenhausen. For centuries, this place was a village with a lot of lands given over to farming (mainly grape-growing). Even though Sachsenhausen was a village that was very different from the rest of Frankfurt – it was still inside the ring of city walls. It’s a very photogenic place with its unique atmosphere – you should take a walk there and do a mini photo shoot.

Hauptwache Square

In the 21st century, this is Frankfurt’s busy transport hub and is situated in the heart of the city (west of the Zeil, a long pedestrian shopping street). Here in the center is the Baroque building (from which the square itself derives its name). A bit of history and facts: at the time when Frankfurt was a free city-state, this building was the headquarters for the city’s Stadwehr militia (German guard). Later, the building was a prison and then a police station. But today, it is home to a coffee shop, which is one of Frankfurt’s favorites. So be sure to book a taxi and visit this cool place.

Frankfurt Zoo

It was an interesting and not prominent place that a tourist in Frankfurt might not think of. And with good reason, because Frankfurt Zoo is one of the oldest in Germany (it was founded in 1858). It covers 13 hectares of landscaped parkland east of Innenstadt and is home to 4,500 animals of more than 500 species. If you take an airport taxi or car, there is very convenient parking. Apart from the huge number of different animal species, the zoo itself is constantly being improved, such as “Ukumari Land”, which was recently built as a home for Andean spectacled bears (look like a real canyon).

Palm Garden (Palmengarten)

This is the Frankfurt Botanical Garden, which was laid out back in 1871. Covering an area of 22 hectares, it contains a huge number of plant species – collected from all over the world – in greenhouses and outdoors. There is a classification of different climatic zones, ranging from the sub-arctic to the tropics. It is a very interesting and colorful place to visit – you will learn a lot of useful information and gain aesthetic pleasure. Furthermore, the Palmengarten has regular exhibitions to show you the diversity of the rainforest or the greenhouses for desert plants. You can also catch the oldest open-air jazz festival in the world. We recommend this place!

We’ve covered a few fascinating places, in our opinion, that you rarely get to see in popular articles. But because Frankfurt is a very interesting and popular city, there are a lot of interesting facts about it – the most important ones you’re about to read.

Fact 1

The palm garden mentioned above is considered unique around the world.

Fact 2

This fact concerns Frankfurt Airport, from which you order AtoB airport taxi. Annually, it receives 65 million people (making it the largest in Germany and third in Europe) but what makes it special is that it was one of the first airports to incorporate automatic luggage sorting into its system.

Fact 3

There are two cities in Germany named Frankfurt. They are Frankfurt am Main and Frankfurt/Oder. But in everyday life (by default) the name Frankfurt is understood as Frankfurt am Main. So if you’ll be renting a cab from somewhere in Germany or simply traveling on your own, don’t get confused.
