THE funeral of well-known Warrington town centre character Peter McLean, will take place this Friday, December 9.
The funeral will take place at Holy Trinity Church on Sankey Street, where Pete often passed his time on or near the church steps, at 2pm on Friday and all are welcome.
He sadly died last month aged 51, at his supported accommodation.
While those who didn’t know him would have seen him as a homeless “down and out,” he was much respected and had many friends in the town centre community and will be sadly missed.
At the time of his death, former Mayor and Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid posted a tribute saying: “Sad to know about the passing of Pete. He was always very kind and talkative. I have good memories with him and whenever in town I always looked for him to say hello. May he rest in peace.”
Meanwhile, town centre hairdresser Michele Butterworth, had known Pete for nearly 40 years.
She said: “I met him when I was volunteering cutting hair at the YMCA. He would always come and sit and talk to me. His mental health took over and although he was offered help he preferred to be outdoors. He was very well-read and always reading. He was always respectful to me.”
Michele’s son Martin, who grew up knowing Pete posted on social media saying: ” Not really got a handle on the loss as yet, He’s always been a constant. I remember sharing my sweets from Woolworths with him. My mam has known him longer than she has known me.
