LOCAL teenager Quin Dunne will feature as one of five incredibly inspiring young people when BBC One’s “The Rickshaw Relay Rides Again” with Matt Baker MBE, airs later this month.

Each rider, all of whom have been supported by BBC Children in Need funded projects, will take a section of the journey, travelling through their hometowns and visiting places across the UK which hold a particular significance for them along the way.

The Rickshaw Relay was filmed between Monday 17th October and Friday 21st October, starting at Sunderland AFC and ending at Silverstone Museum, with BBC Breakfast broadcasting live with Matt B and the team every morning so the public could follow their journey. The one off special which airs at 8pm next Tuesday November 15, will share the team’s remarkable stories and celebrate the history of the much-loved BBC Children in Need staple, while at the same time raising life-changing money for the charity.
This year’s Team Rickshaw is made up of: Alexander, 16 from Sunderland who is autistic and has been supported by the Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light and Grace House, who have both helped him to learn new skills and increase his confidence and independence; Kai, 16 from Aberystwyth who was born with Cerebral Palsy and has been supported by Aberystwyth Wheelchair Basketball; Sanna, 20 from Birmingham who has the inherited blood disorder Thalassemia and has been supported by OSCAR Birmingham for most of her life, who support children living with the condition; Tabitha, 17 from Northampton who was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer when she was 15 years old and has been supported by PASIC Cancer Support; and Quinlan, 18 from Warrington who lost his 19-year old brother River Reeves, in a tragic accident in 2016 and has been supported by Child Bereavement UK who provide counselling for children and young people.

In the documentary Matt Baker meets with each of the young riders taking part in the challenge, cycling the miles alongside them as they ride across all terrains and through all weather conditions as they push to reach their finish lines, sharing their inspiring stories along the way.
Matt said: Matt Baker said: “It was an absolute privilege to ride alongside these young people during the Rickshaw Relay. Seeing their friends and family as well as members of the public coming out to show their support on the route, really kept us pedalling throughout the day to get to each finish line. We know times are difficult for everyone right now, so if you can, please donate but if you can’t please just tune in and watch Team Rickshaw’s inspiring stories!”
Tommy Nagra, Director of Content said: “The Rickshaw Challenge has become a yearly staple in the BBC Children in Need calendar, and we are so pleased to have BBC Studios and BBC One on board to create such an inspiring documentary to follow Matt & the team’s journey this year.”

Tune in to BBC One on Tuesday 15th November 2022 at 8pm to see how the team get on.
