SOUTH African-born cricketer Grant Hodnett, who played a leading role in Grappenhall’s promotion to the Cheshire County Cricket League’s ECB premier division last summer, is leaving the club to pursue new opportunities.

The 40-year-old ex-Gloucestershire batsman, has played for Grappenhall for the last three seasons.

He played first-class cricket in England and South Africa between 2005 and 2013, scoring 1,339 runs at an average of 30.43 and with a top score of 168.
Hodnett made more than 50 appearances for Grappenhall, scoring more than 1,900 runs and with a top score of 113 not out.

He scored his 100th century while with the club.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed representing Grappers the past three seasons, with some very fond memories and performances I can be proud of.
“I would like to thank the chairman and committee members for their support towards me on and off the field during my time at the club and to thank all the players for their support and camaraderie during my time at the club.
“Winning 14 league games in a row will remain spectacular memories. I have made some friends for life and to those friends this isn’t goodbye.”
“Hodders” also thanked the club’s supporters.
“Without their weekly support we, as players, are irrelevant.
“I would like to wish the club and the players all the very best. I hope the club goes from strength to strength.”
