This chain has grown from one boutique coffee shop in Wellington back in 2003 to one of the most beloved and experienced independent roasters in New Zealand. With around 30 locations throughout Auckland and Wellington, you will most likely come across this great coffee spot. While they are famous for their own roasts, the locations also usually have a great lunch menu, and you can even get a glass of wine!

The Flight Coffee Hangar

The Hangar was the local where Flight Coffee started roasting operations and their wholesale business. The location has grown from a small spot with a coffee bar in a car park, to a full-fledged restaurant focusing on classic lunch and brunch cuisine. Besides ethically sourced coffee beans and amazing food, one of the special items on the menu are the coffee tasting flights. You can sample different roasts in different coffee forms, and if you can’t decide, you can even get a flight of different types of espresso, flat whites and cold drips.

Eighthirty Coffee Roasters

With a deep attention to detail, and a hyper sharp Coffee sustainability focus on sustainability,  Eighthirty Coffee has earned their spot as a darling of the coffee community. Established in 2009, the coffee roasting company not only has several chic locations throughout Auckland, they provide high-quality beans to hospitality venues throughout New Zealand, as well as around the world. No matter which location you go to, the quality will always shine through.

Black Betty

Black Betty serves all kinds of unique styles of coffee, with impressive methods such as cold drip, coffee siphons, and pour-overs. Black Betty has won awards for being the most outstanding café in Christchurch. Not only can you get a unique cup of coffee, They also serve brunch daily! This cool space serves roasts from the Switch Espresso Family, which has two other locations in Christchurch called Bunsen and Industrie Espresso Bar.

Havana Coffee Works

Havana Coffee Works is located in Wellington and has tons of nifty roasts to take home. They are housed in a gorgeous 1950s art deco building, with a beautiful green exterior and an even more beautiful interior.  Inside you will find a lux, old school scene, and can even watch the roasters do their job while you sit and enjoy their coffee. At Havana coffee works, you feel as though you are a part of the process, you are encouraged to smell roasts, touch samples and take it all in.

New Zealand visa

It is undeniable that although these brewing companies have grown and become respectable business and chains, they still have a unique quality that makes them feel like quaint, mom-and-pop coffee shops. It is simply one of the charms of visiting New Zealand. Feeling like a local, while enjoying unique, ethically made coffees, is only a portion of what you can experience there.

Most travellers need a New Zealand visa to enter the country. The New Zealand visa or NZeTA is valid for 2 years. So, you don’t have to feel rushed to make sure you experience everything at once. Each visit with the New Zealand visa can last up to 3 months, and during the 2-year validity of the New Zealand visa, you can visit as often as you’d like.
