Broomfields fitness suite to remain closed pending full suspended ceiling replacement

2

THE fitness suite at Broomfields Leisure centre will remain closed until further notice after an inspection of the facility revealed the suspended ceiling will have to be fully replaced.

Operators LiveWire in partnership with Warrington Borough Council have been liaising with various contractors in order to understand the extent of the works required.

The assessment report has now been received concluding that localised repairs to the fitness suite suspended ceiling will not suffice, and that a full replacement is required. Together with the Council LiveWire are now working to understand the full implications i.e. costs and timelines for both the suspended ceiling replacement, and for the mechanical and electrical work required in association with the suspended ceiling system.

A spokesperson said: “At this stage, unfortunately, we are unable to provide any timelines. As soon as we can be clearer on the anticipated re-opening date for the fitness suite we will communicate further updates.

“In line with our previous messages, this will impact on some of the main centre opening hours, working around the wider site programme. We therefore advise that all customers/members check our website for pool programme and group exercise class details, and ideally pre-book your place before visiting.

“Note that all programmed swimming, group exercise classes, sports hall bookings, and outdoor activities on the 3G all-weather pitch will run as normal unless you are contacted by us and informed otherwise. The Superstars school holiday programme will also be operating as planned.”

“We sincerely apologise for the disruption that this is causing. We continue to advise to check our social media feeds before visiting for the use of the fitness suite.”

  1. Yet another problem with Broomfields. It’s time to build a brand new centre. You found the money to do so in Orford, Great Sankey and Bewsey, now do something for the south of the town, instead of make do and mend. The place has needed replacing for a long time. The imbalance is disgraceful.

  2. Further evidence, if it were needed, of WBC’s reluctance to conduct regular inspections and timely maintenance on the various properties and assets it possesses. Waiting until things fail or fall apart is a sign of bad management and inevitably results in greater remedial or replacement costs.
