UPDATED: A 47-year-old man has been charged with drink-driving after a three-car crash on the M6 on Thelwall viaduct yesterday.

The man from Chorley was allegedly driving a white Mercedes AMG which was involved in a collision with a red dropside lorry and a black Nissan Qashqai. The motorway was closed in both directions causing lengthy traffic congestion.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, rushed to the scene and firefighters helped release two casualties from an overturned vehicle.

During the collision between junction 20 and 21 of the southbound carriageway, just before 2pm, the Nissan overturned. One of the passengers – a woman – suffered serious but ‘non-life-threatening’ injuries.

Inderjit Sagar, aged 47 from Chorley, was arrested and has subsequently been charged with drink driving.

He has been remanded on bail to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on August 15.

The charges relate to a collision involving three vehicles on the M6 between junctions 20 and 21 on Wednesday, July 27.
