THE medieval tradition of Lymm Rushbearing returns on Sunday, August 14.
The origins of Rushbearing date from the Middle Ages, but Lymm is one of a small number of communities that continue the tradition.
Having died out near the beginning of the 20th century, it was revived in the 1970s by local resident Chris Limb.
The job of replacing rushes on the earthen floor of the church became a festival and in many places (including Lymm) had Morris dancers and music.
This year’s procession starts at the Lower Dam at 4pm on 14th August, followed by a walk up the Dingle and then to St Mary’s church at about 4.30 pm.
