MP raises concerns over controversial Orford traffic plan

WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols has raised concerns over the controversial traffic plan for Orford, calling for an interim review after six months while also urging residents to contact her with their concerns.

Nearly 3,000 people have now signed an online petition objecting to the implementation of the Traffic Neighbourhood Scheme in Orford, part of the council’s inner ward Central 6 regeneration plan, which aims to reduce traffic in the area.

Ms Nichols said: “I have been contacted by a number of my constituents who have expressed concerns about the implementation of the new Low Traffic Neighbourhood Scheme in Orford and I am raising those concerns with the council teams leading the trial project.

“I will continue to monitor the scheme closely over the coming months and will be calling for an interim review after 6 months. I encourage constituents to visit www.warrington.gov.uk/central-6-streets-plan where they can feedback directly to the Council or learn more about the project.

“While I fully support in principle local efforts to improve road safety, tackle air pollution and encourage active travel options like walking and cycling; we must ensure that any proposals are properly scrutinised at the evaluation stage. If the data shows that the negatives outweigh the positives, then the Council must rethink and go back to the drawing board.

“As always if constituents have any concerns they can get in touch with me via my office by emailing [email protected]

Council plan to proceed with Orford traffic scheme accepting it “will never be universally popular”
