Arpley tip restoration project set to be extended by two years

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington will be urged tomorrow (Thursday) to approve a two-year extension on work to restore the Arpley Landfill site.

Work should have been completed by the end of April, but because of issues outside the control of applicant 3C Waste Ltd, this proved impossible.

Now the company is seeking an extension to the length of the restoration until April 24, 2024 – and officers are recommending the application n approved.
It will mean a maximum of 56 heavy lorries laden with uncontaminated materials would use Old Liverpool Road every weekday to reach the site off Forrest Way.

But Warrington Borough Council officers are confident the road network is capable of carrying the traffic and that nearby residents will not suffer unacceptable impacts on their lives. There have been no objections.
Unlike when the once infamous landfill site was still operating there will be no smells or other nuisances. Tipping ended at the end of 2016.

The reason it was not possible to complete the work by the originally approved date was that there were delays by the Environment Agency in granting an environmental permit because of a backlog of work. This meant the importation of materials could not start. A permit has now been granted.
Most of the former landfill site has now been restored. Eventually, the whole site will be returned to nature, with a network of permissive footpaths, some linking to the Moore Nature Reserve.
