Priestley students lend vision to leading digital platform

VISIONARY students from Warrington’s Priestley College were set a design challenge by a company that connects over 50 million people around the world.

Edenred – a leading digital platform used in 46 countries by 850,000 corporate clients – set the brief for those on the BTEC Graphic Design and Photography course.

They were asked to produce animation or imagery that promoted the company’s values to its target audience.

“It has been a great opportunity for the students to work with a leading international company like Edenred,” said Tutor Paul McConnell.

“They were given a lot of independence with this project and their responses could take the form of photography, illustration or animation depending on what best suited their idea.”

Among those students who took part was Lewis Fraser whose stunning 90-second animation really caught the eye.

Despite only picking up his animation skills after finishing at Lymm High a year ago, Lewis created a piece that was both atmospheric and impactful.

“We had to create something that represented Edenred’s company values, but it was a broad brief,” said the 18-year-old.

“I spent around 100 hours on the project and I really feel like I accomplished something.”

His animation called ‘Overworked Employee’ follows the main protagonist as he gets out of bed, makes his way to work almost falling asleep at the wheel. As he sits at his desk in a monotone office a parcel arrives at his desk from Edenred to brighten up his day.

Lewis’ work was created in Blender while other assets within the world he created were built in software such as Vroid.

Lewis, who is now hoping to study animation at Falmouth or Bournemouth universities, took inspiration from Pixar for his work.

“Ultimately I had to cut short what I originally planned as I was a little too ambitious,” he said.

Edenred helps companies to build engagement with their employees and motivate stronger performance using simple, engaging incentive, rewards, recognition and benefits.

Kim Glazebrook, Creative Lead from Edenred, said: Having asked the students to produce artwork inspired by our company values, I was blown away by the talent within a diverse range of outcomes.

“Many of the students sought feedback throughout their development to which they responded really well and explored further.

“To work with a live client is a valuable employability skill, giving them a great insight into the industry. The professionalism and skill shown by the students at Priestley was very impressive.”
