Green Belt house plan is turned down

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have turned down proposals for a detached house on the site of a derelict swimming pool.

The proposal would have involved demolishing the swimming pool building in Stretton Road, Stretton – but it involved Green Belt land.

Warrington Borough Council Planning officers ruled the scheme would be inappropriate in the Green Belt and would harm the openness of the Green Belt.

The development was proposed for land adjoining existing properties in Stretton Road, Stretton – “Wardleys” and “The Cottage.”

The four-bedroomed house would have been taller than the existing swimming pool building, but would not disrupt views across the land as it would be set against the backdrop of the existing dwellings, according to the applicant.

“It would have no detrimental impact upon the ability of people to enjoy the amenity of the Green Belt setting,” they claimed

The house would be in a cluster of residential properties and would enhance the immediate setting, reusing an otherwise redundant site.

An existing access drive serving The Cottage would also serve the new property and there would be parking for at least three vehicles.

The proposed dwelling would be designed to be in keeping with the scale and massing of existing properties along this stretch of Stretton Road.

But officers decided there was no special reason to overrule the Green Belt objections
