Green Belt plan in conservation area set to be approved

PLANS for an extension on a locally listed house in a conservation area and the Green Belt come before Warrington planners next week – with a recommendation for approval.

The property is in Broad Lane, Grappenhall and is described as having a distinctive character of Georgian origin.

Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council have expressed concerns that the development would be unsympathetic to the heritage of the house and would not be in keeping with the conservation area.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee will consider the application on Wednesday.

The proposal is to demolish two existing single-storey extensions at the house and replace them with one single storey extension.

A report to the committee says the property is in the Grappenhall Village Conservation Area and is also a Locally Listed building, with two other Locally Listed buildings on either side of it.

But the extension would be a proportionate addition to the house and would therefore be appropriate development in the Green Belt. The proposals would not cause harm to the nearby Locally Listed properties, nor the character of the conservation area.

As a result, officers are recommending the scheme for approval.
