A total of 20 new trees have been planted at Appleton Thorn Village Hall to mitigate ones lost when the Inland Border Facility took over the old Shearing’s site.
During works to set up the facility the government via HMRC, cut down many trees and to compensate agreed to fund replacement trees in and around Appleton Thorn.
In order to restore the area’s Carbon footprint to help mitigate against climate change, Appleton Thorn Village Hall was one of the recipients along with Warrington Borough Council, HMP Thorn Cross and Appleton Thorn Primary School.
Funds for the Village Hall were received in November and 20 trees were delivered on Thursday 3rd February.
With the assistance of HMP Thorn Cross, all the trees were planted around the inner periphery of the Village Hall grounds.
Over the past 12 months a great deal of time was invested by volunteers to create attractive spaces within the grounds of the Village Hall and the planting of these colourful trees is a further addition that will give lasting pleasure in future years to all.
