HIGHWAY planners have introduced a new 40 mph speed limit on the A49 at Stretton, Warrington, following safety concerns.
Following receipt of several notes of concern from Stretton Parish Council and a number of damage only collisions, resulting in repair of the vehicle restraint system on the M56 interchange several times in quick succession, Warrington Borough Council has moved to introduce a 40 MPH speed limit.
Inappropriate speed of traffic entering the roundabout from the A49 Tarporley Road is associated with the cause of these incidents with an automated traffic count recording the highest approach speed of 63.4mph.
Therefore it is proposed to reduce the speed limit from the Borough Boundary with Cheshire West and Chester through to the M56 Interchange to 40mph.
Warrington Borough Council made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4 and 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers on 16th February 2022. The effect of the Order is to introduce a 40 miles per hour speed limit on A49 Tarporley Road from the Borough Boundary with Cheshire West and Chester through to the M56 Interchange. The Order became effective from 17th February 2022.
